Tucked in between supermarkets and the fast food outlets of Casey Market Town is Canberra’s newest gastropub – Casey Jones. Once you step inside you quickly forget about being in the middle of a shopping centre located in Canberra’s highest population growth corridor within Gungahlin and are transported to New York, with the American style bar and industrial loft feel.
The interior is full of warmth and quirky handcrafted details from the railway-track inspired balustrades to the reuse of the old Kaleen squash court floors. Even a trip to the bathroom is full of bespoke pieces.
It is sure to quickly become a neighbourhood favourite for those living in the north and we can attest that it is well worth the drive from the south to dig into the menu and extensive drinks list.
We were lucky enough to get a preview before it’s official opening on Friday the 22nd of July (which has been booked out) and wholeheartedly agree with the owners Josh & Shell Leehmuis vision that it raises the bar for what it means to be a gastropub by combining superb service, splendid ingredients and a friendly, old-fashioned vibe into the perfect dining experience.
If you visit expect bold flavours and a most excellent cocktail but make sure you book!
