We recently got a tip from one of our Instagram followers, that hidden amongst the factories and warehouses of Mitchell lies one of Canberra’s best patisseries. Always curious to find the Canberra region’s hidden gems, during the school holidays my daughter and I headed into the industrial heartland of Mitchell to try La Sable Patisserie.
It was a visual feast – as soon as we entered the patisserie we were both oohing and ahhhing at the cabinets which were full of beautiful pastries, cakes & pies. With the smell of coffee wafting through the air, we sat down to try a few sweet treats as we chatted to Benjamin Turner, one of the Directors of La Sable Patisserie.
With over 8 years experience as a pastry chef, Ben turned his profession into a passion and opened La Sable Patisserie last year with the simple philosophy of using the freshest and best produce available and making everything in-house from scratch.
Now that we have discovered it, we will definitely be back. I will be stopping in for the croissants, which on the day we visited were available in chocolate, raspberry, pistachio and traditional. I have never seen croissants look so beautiful before. The clever chefs at the patisserie employ a new technique of rolling the flavour into the dough. My daughter has already picked out the cake for our next family celebration – La Sable Caramel Mud Cake Caramel mud cake covered in white chocolate ganache, topped with salted caramel popcorn.
