We recently popped into Poppy’s cafe and discovered it is definitely worth a stop, even if you are not visiting the Australian War Memorial.
The cafe is adjacent to the main Memorial building and there is plenty of parking in the downstairs underground car park. The first thing I notice is the inviting wide, elegant front courtyard, followed by the expansive views of Constitution Avenue, Lake Burley Griffin and Parliament House from one side and the Memorial’s serene grounds and Mount Ainslie from the other, making it quite the relaxing spot.
As I walk through the doors into the warm, cosy interior, I notice the retro touches that adorn the space – the vintage advertisements, war memorabilia and quirky fabric used to upholster some of the chairs adds a touch of nostalgia.
Having just had a fresh food makeover with a brand new menu that covers breakfast, lunch, and morning and afternoon tea, I was excited to taste their new dishes. We popped in for lunch and tried the Pulled Pork Pot Pie & the – both were delicious and would be my goto dishes for our next visit.
For dessert, we couldn’t resist coffee and a selection from the cake cabinet – a caramel slice and a piece of apple crumble.
The cafe is introducing their new Let’s Lunch set menu – two courses with a glass of house wine and the sparkling High Tea available daily at 2pm, and we are thinking that this would be a great way to sample more of their dishes on our next visit
