Who said High Tea should be relegated to servings of scones and cucumber finger sandwiches? The team at Beef & Barley on the Kingston Foreshore have put their signature burger twist on the classic high tea platter.
We visited on a Sunday afternoon, ordered our Burger High Tea and drinks and picked out a board game from their games wall; opting for a session of food & wine trivia to pass away our afternoon.
Launched in June, the Burger High Tea has been very popular. With a minimum order for two diners, it is being ordered by couples and larger groups.
So what do you get on the plates…
Tier one is piled high with beer battered chips, popcorn chicken and tasty morsels of fried halloumi. Served with aioli and sriracha mayo, you can experiment with the dipping sauces to find the flavours that work for you.
On level two you will find slider versions of two of Beef and Barley’s favourite burgers – the Miss Piggy and Uncle Sam. Both served on a milk bun, the Miss Piggy is filled with bbq pulled pork, slaw, swiss cheese, pickle and homemade applesauce. The Uncle Sam is a classic; beef patty, bacon, fried onion, cheddar, pickle, bbq sauce, pickles and mustard mayo. Served with sides of prosciutto wrapped peppers, pickles and slaw this US food inspired tier has been given the thumbs up from Stateside visitors.
The top level provides a platter of sweet treats. We were served mini-lamingtons, macaroons , brownies and scattered caramel popcorn. The dessert layer changes as different delicacies are baked daily.
Our highlight picks from each tier – the halloumi bites, the Miss Piggy Slider and the rich chocolate brownie.
The High Tea can be tailored for vegetarians, halal and gluten-free diets – just let the team know your dietary requirements when you make your booking.
Perfect for catching up with friends, date night or a family night out (over a board game challenge or two), there are a limited number of High Teas served at each session, so we suggest you book your spot!
