Visitors to the Canberra Night Noodle Market are in for a treat with Sydney pastry and dessert specialist Black Star Pastry are on site serving two of their delicacies (yes, including the very photogenic Strawberry Watermelon Cake). Black Star Pastry have also teamed up with N2 extreme gelato to create a cake – gelato smash-up to serve at the markets.
You can’t miss their stall, with a family of colourful Koinobori windsocks decorating the stand and the nitrogen vapour emitting from behind the counter.
It tastes like all the elements of a summer picnic put together in one cake.
What’s on the Black Star Pastry menu:
Strawberry Watermelon Cake: Almond Dacquoise, fresh cream, watermelon, strawberries, pistachios and rose petals. Gluten free.
Ferrero Reveal: Choc-hazelnut gelato with hazelnut bites, rice bubble choc top and a choc ganache pipette.
Cake Smash Gelato: A mash-up between Black Star Pastry and N2 Extreme Gelato – you get to sample the best of both worlds.
We sampled the Strawberry Watermelon Cake. The ingredients all worked well together, a refreshing light dessert, with the sweet layer of the fruit complementing the richness of the cream. It tastes like all the elements of a summer picnic put together in one cake.
And the Cake Smash Gelato is perfect for these hot autumn nights. With the add your own sauce option, the delight was biting into pieces of fresh watermelon mixed into the ice-cream.
