Rome has a way of turning heartbreak in a detour worth taking.
In Solo Mio, Kevin James plays Matt Taylor, who flies into Rome ready for the honeymoon dream — you know the one, where two become one and the itinerary is packed with coupley things you’ll remember forever. Except… the wedding doesn’t happen. Suddenly Matt is solo on a couples package, trying to navigate that weird mix of sadness and “well, now what?” without letting the whole trip become a memorial to what could have been.

The best thing about Solo Mio (directed by brothers Chuck and Dan Kinnane) is how it keeps steering Matt back to the present. There’s a lovely thread running through it: get lost in moments so you can’t get lost in memories. A coffee. A view. A conversation that turns your day around. It’s light-hearted, yes — but it’s also quietly about choosing to stay open. Or as the film puts it: don’t let your heart close your eyes to it.

And honestly? That’s why it’s a great watch. It’s not pretending love is always fireworks. The film is more interested in second chapters, and the courage it takes to stop guarding yourself. Solo Mio is sweet, scenic, and surprisingly reassuring: even when the plan falls apart, you can still find laughter, happiness and friendship, sometimes exactly where you didn’t expect it.

So Frank says
We loved the scenery and have added some spots in Rome and Tuscany to our travel list.
All the food had us drooling, from the scenes of eating gelato in the park to making pasta. We recommend you pair the film with Italian food.
Favourite line
We didn’t want to lose what we had because we were afraid of being alone.
