As long time local residents, the So Frank team (and most of Canberra) have on occasion visited “The Canberra North Bowling Club”, or “Turner Bowls” as it affectionately became known but the past few years have brought about changes (all good changes – we promise).
The Canberra North Bowling Club merged with the ACT Rugby Union Club to become The RUC in Turner. While at first glance on the outside, it still looks the same – the lawn bowls are still there, available for both competitions, social games and functions.
Inside, it is a whole new look for The RUC in Turner. After months of major renovations which included installing a large outdoor deck, raised lounge area, double-sided fireplace, a new entry, reception area, and a café, it is sleek and modern, almost unrecognisable from the old bowling club.
And the changes have not only been physical ones, The RUC also has a new Head Chef with a new menu and weekly events, including some of Canberra’s best meal deals:
SUNDAY – $30 BOWLS, BURGERS, BEERS OR BUBBLES
MONDAY – $10 ROAST OF THE DAY
TUESDAY – $10 SCHNITTY
WEDNESDAY – $10 BURGERS
THURSDAY – FREE TRIVIA
FRIDAY – MEAT RAFFLES
We popped in recently for our So Frank team dinner and being a cold winter Canberra night, the burgers were the meal of choice. We tried the “Man O War” spicy chicken burger, the classic New York cheeseburger and a certified organic beef burger with sweet potato fries. Our collective verdict was that we would definitely be finding reason to pop in again soon to this revitalised suburban gem and probably on a Wednesday night to get more of those tasty burgers!
