A feast for three. That is what we had when the So Frank team indulged in Buvette’s latest Saturday brunch offering – the Petit Feast.
Located in Barton, within the premises of Hotel Realm, Buvette brings classic French dishes to Canberra and adds its own style to make them their own. A chic French restaurant that transports you to the steps of Montmartre and the hustle and bustle of Paris’s streets.
The Petit Feast was created by Buvette to bring that bistro coolness to Barton; to have that relaxed European vibe that is synonymous with long family lunches and sharing plates delivered to the table.
More than a high tea, the Petit Feast is a sharing experience where you can savour the best of both savoury and sweet.
Don’t be fooled by its name; the ‘Petit Feast’ does not refer to the amount of food and choice you will have – for the first time in a long time we could not finish all the dishes.
On our visit, we devoured delicious vegetarian quiches, red wine and beef mini sausage pies, an assortment of olives, generous portions of Manchego and Brie cheeses, Jamon and salami, duck liver pate, and finger salmon sandwiches and tomato and cheese sandwiches. We also filled up with the most delicious freshly baked bread (that went perfectly with the pate), and this was just the savoury selection.
Our desserts were eight individual portions; they looked perfect – a full array of colours that simply popped on the dark slate they were served on – and tasted divine. From the passionfruit custard with raspberries; to the pistachio friand, the lemon meringue pie, the chocolate ganache tart, the macaron, the chocolate cake, the orange and poppy seed cake, and the chocolate covered cream puffs were perfect mouthfuls full of flavour.
If you truly want to experience the Petit feast in its full essence of sharing, then ask for both sweet and savoury to arrive at the table together. This way, you can move from savoury to sweet depending on your palate and tastes.
